The importance of proper urban transport planning for Africa is critical to maximize the massive economic potential that the continent has. However with the highest population growth, urbanisation and motorisation rates in the world, the transportation sector is unable to provide affordable, accessible and clean transport to meet the growing demands for access and mobility.
Increasing traffic congestion, a significant decrease in air quality and rising road deaths are some of the bottlenecks African cities are facing and urgently needs to solve. Integrating sustainable and inclusive transport systems along with the opportunities to ‘leapfrog’ to more effective and efficient forms of transport makes urban transport planning for African cities challenging yet exciting as governments are undertaking massive efforts to upgrade and develop new infrastructure.
Following the success of previous infrastructure summits in Africa, the Africa Urban Transport Summit will provide a cohesive platform for all stakeholders to discuss on issues to create sustainable and inclusive urban transport systems in Africa.
Political commitment, funding, infrastructure, traffic management, road safety and emissions are some of the top issues that will be deliberated by industry experts. New trends, opportunities and technologies will be showcased, once again providing the perfect platform for extraordinary networking opportunities for all Summit participants.
